BATHROOM PAINT?

i have a very small bathroom with no windows just a small vent so moisture is an issue and i need to paint my bathroom it has a shiny paint . do i have to prime first ?

what color will make it brighter and look bigger?

im out numbered by men in my apartment so it cant look girly or manly what color should i go for?BATHROOM PAINT?
Firstly you need to work out what kind of paint is on the wall now. Is it enamel or acrylic paint? An easy way to do this is to get some turpentine and rub a little of it on the wall. If the paint comes away easily then you have acrylic paint, if it does not come away easily then it is enamel paint.

So make sure that you use the same kind of paint as what is on the wall now.

If you go to the paint store, tell them you are painting your bathroom and they can recommend a mildew and moisture resistent paint which is made especially for use in wet areas.

Lastly I would suggest a cream colour, like 'pancake'. It is gender neutral, makes the room look clean and hygienic but with a little warmth to it as it is not just plain white, and light colours make small rooms appear bigger and brighter (especially if you do not have a window).

If the paint which is there now is in good condition (no peeling or bubbling or cracking), then technically speaking you do not have to prime it, just give it a light sanding. But as any good painter will tell you, if you want to do a lasting job, always prime/seal/undercoat first.BATHROOM PAINT?
when you are trying to determine what type of paint you have in your bathroom you do not use turpentine you use methyl hydrate. it is a type of alcohol. wet a cloth or paper towel and rub it on the walls and ceiling in a swirling motion. if the paint comes of at all it is a water based paint. once you have established the type of paint you have on their then you can choose what you are going to use. if there are no repairs to do then no you don't have to use a primer. primers are only needed if you have an unfished product that you are going to paint. if you have an oil based paint on there now my advice would be to apply a coat of oil primer and then go to a water based finish coat. i don't know where you live but in Canada by 2010 solvent based paints will be banned so if you are in the usa im sure that will happen soon and it would be best to change over now. go to your local paint store such as a benjamin moore, pratt and lambert or if you really want the best farrow and ball. they will give you alot better advice and service than a home depot or any of those other box stores and the price will be comparable for alot better product.
You may want a marine-grade paint, since you have to deal with a lot of moisture in a small space.

And yes, prime first. For the color, compromise since you have a bunch of guys with you. Make it nice but not frilly. And use a light color to make the room seem bigger.

Good luck!
in my opinion, anything too dark closes a room in...

choose light curtains for the shower and wall like sage, cream, yellow, maybe light blue...dont forget to imagine accessories in the room too
paint it in stripes two tone light yellow and dark yellow alternate width of stripe and use a matte finish and a satin finish, this works well with one color of paint
Most people will probably tell you to go with a light color to make the room look bigger. But if it's really small to begin with, how much larger is a lighter color going to make it look anyway? If you have too settle for lighter, go with a nice rich tan like Sherwin-Williams Bagel.

If not, go with blue. Blue is the Pantone hot color for 2008. You could probably find a nice warm medium tone greyish-blue that won't be too girly or too manly.

Hope this helps! :)
maybe a creamy color, i like cream colored paints with tan accessories, you probably have to prime the wall first if it's a different color than white.
do you wanna it looks bigger, the color white is the solution!!!!
Your bath room is probably painted with water based enamel which is shiny. So paint it with the same color but wash down the walls with a regular household cleaner before you repaint. The paint store will give you the proper paint for bathrooms. The lighter the color the brighter the room. A slight off-white should be fine.
rub down the walls very well as the new paint needs something to grip to and then use brilliant white bathroom or kitchen paint. its available at all paint shops. to be sure that it s sealed you can mix some uni bond with water and paint on walls before you put your paint on. this will stop the paint from going moldy or blowing. white looks good as a base color and you can then accessorize with colors, IE: flooring , pictures, loo seats, plants etc.
wash the walls with TSP (you can get it at the hardware store) and follow the directions on the box to the letter. wash from the bottom of the wall up so it doesn't leave dribble streaks on the walls. then use a fresh sponge to rinse the walls with hot water, again from the bottom up, and change the water a few times even if it is a small room. this soap is strong so you don't want to leave any on the wall, or it will mess up the paint job. if you even think that you didn't rinse well enough, rinse the whole room again, why chance a messed up paint job. then set up a fan in the doorway and change the air so the walls dry completely. when dry, prime the walls with a primer (i like oil based) and have the store mix in a mildew preventer when they shake it for you. i also had them add it to the finish paint which was a kitchen and bath, eggshell latex, an extra durable finish for hard use conditions, very washable. you would need an enamel paint for the trim though, the primer would work on the ceiling, but you would have to decide if you want that the same color as the walls, with a lot of light, all one color can make it seem larger, if it's a light color. we did our small bath in a pastel sky blue, almost a white with a touch of blue in it. or a sea mist green, if you like green. it's a lot of work, but any GOOD paint job is only as good as the prep work, and there is nothing harder than trying to fix a bad paint job after the fact. besides, why would you want to have to do all this over again, after you just did? the good news is, you've got ';guy'; muscle to do the dirty work!! good luck.
