Is it possible to paint a bathroom sink/vanity that is old and ugly? If so with what?

It sure is, my husband and I just finished a bathtub this week. It was a big job but I sink should be easy. We bought the product at Lowe's, it is a two part epoxy. It comes in a spray or a brush on, we chose the brush on because of the overspray. Preparing the surface to be painted is a big part of the job and very important. The painting itself is very easy. go to lowes or home depot and there is a two step product to refinish your tub or sink. my sister used it on her tub and it looks really good. if you tell them what you are looking for they will know what you are talking about. good luck with your project.
Call a home improvement store and ask them. They will be able to help you out.
