What can I do to a portion of a bathroom wall (plaster) where the paint keeps curling up and falling off?

Oddly, this place is up high where no water reaches, but I think there is mildew there. I've tried a couple different primers over the years. I have the same flaking problem on a kitchen wall. The house is 82 years old and I live in the South (VA) where humidity is high...? Thanks for any advice. What can I do to a portion of a bathroom wall (plaster) where the paint keeps curling up and falling off?
check behind the wall to make sure there isn't a water pipe leak or go to a paint store and tell them what's wrong and they may knowWhat can I do to a portion of a bathroom wall (plaster) where the paint keeps curling up and falling off?
I don't know what else to tell you aside from sanding, priming and making sure you use paint meant for high humidity environments... you may need to replace that area of plaster if there happens to be mold growing there, you can't just paint over mold, it will keep coming back. Use bleach or a mold killer to remove the mold then reprime and repaint.
killz is a good one to stop this
Try a dehumidefier. Or you may just be using the wrong type of oprimer with the wrong type of paint. Go to a paint store Im sure they will have the answer
it sounds like you have a paint match problem. This old of house was first painted in a lead based oil paint. If the primers you have used are acrylic based. then paint won't adhere to it. Try washing the area with bleach{use care}, then try a primer like Bins Sealer[also call Bullseye}, If that doesn't work, don't know of any other quick remedies.
The curling up and flaking off certainly sounds like a reaction to moisture, coming from the outside in. I'll bet the same is true for your kitchen wall. It's time to do some sleuthing:

When I am trying to figure out how water is entering a home, I try to think like water. Water basically flows along and minds its own business until something gets in the way. Then seemingly out of spite, it works its way inside. Look for an area that cooresponds with your internal problem. See if you can see a likely path for running water during a storm, and if there is an obstruction to that path (flashing, architectural detail, gutter, etc.) that might cause the water to be diverted into the home. Look for cracks, dry rot, loose caulking joints, peeled paint, mold and other evidence of moisture accumulation. I'll bet you'll find the location of the leaks very quickly.

For sealing out water, nothing is more effective that urethane caulking, at about $4.25 a tube. Make sure the surfaces you are sealing are clean and dry. After the leaks are fixed, and the interior dries out, you will probably have to gouge the loose plaster out and repair it with joint compound.

Good luck!

I want to paint my bathroom brown and have blue as an accent color. Anyone have ideas or pics? Please help.?

Anyone have ideas or pics? Please help.?
Well, that's an interesting idea, but I like this one even better... Try this: paint the walls a medium yellow as background and have brown streaks all over as the accents!

Mike ChristensenI want to paint my bathroom brown and have blue as an accent color. Anyone have ideas or pics? Please help.?
nice idea! but brown + blue doesn't work with me. why not try green and yellow? if you wanna put pictures in your bathroom, put them in a wooden frame. you may put a brown basket for decoration, with news papers and magazines in it. A cream shower curtain with a little bit of green, yellow and brown color.

How do I get spray paint off of my bathroom tile?

I accidentally got a little spray paint on my ceramic tile in my bathroom. I tired cleaning it with windex, liquid dishwasher soap, and a few other things as well as scraping it with a knife. Nothing is working. What EXACTLY do I need to buy to get it off the tile? Thanks. How do I get spray paint off of my bathroom tile?

What would be a good paint finish in a bathroom with old plastered and new drywall mixed together?

The surface is quite rough despite lots of plastering and sanding. The room is done is blues and aquas, spa-like. I'm thinking of something that might suggest water. Any ideas? What would be a good paint finish in a bathroom with old plastered and new drywall mixed together?
Several different faux finishes are very good at disguising imperfect walls.

Color washing and sponge painting are two very good techniques for this, as the textured look of the finish camoflages rough or irregular surfaces.

I love the suede paint look and technique, but I would not at all suggest the technique for use in a bathroom. It is not an exceptionally durable paint...it scratches easily and does not hold up well to moisture.

You can find instructions for the color washing and sponge painting techniques at the site below. What would be a good paint finish in a bathroom with old plastered and new drywall mixed together?
GET TEXTURE PAINT AND HAVE A PALE PALE SHADE OF ICE BLUE....
With dissimilar surfaces, you should really consider making an attempt to make them more similar. While it is a lot of work to plaster the drywall, it may be the only way to make the room look entirely uniform. However, if you are able to achieve a similar texture on both sets of walls, then you should still consider using a latex primer coat (preferrably two) on each wall to ensure that the paint adheres similarly. This will also help to ensure that the sheen is similar on both surfaces.
I would go with a faux finish of some type so that the roughness looks as though it were intentional. You can do a suede look and it's relatively inexpensive. Good luck!
Bathrooms should always have either a satin or semi-gloss finish on the walls. It will take the steam better than an eggshell or a latex.

I am buying a '40's house with HORRIBLE tile on the bathroom walls, how to paint over them?

I LOVE THIS HOUSE. It has a swimming pool, and everything, but the only bathroom is small, and the walls are covered in BLUE tile!! Not one of my colors, nor a color I like. It looks like they have recently put down linoleum on the floor, so I can replace that. What I'm concerned about is the tile. Should I try to remove it, or paint over it? And if I do paint over it, will it stay? Keep in mind that the tiles are not only on the walls, but the entire bathtub walls are covered in them. I cannot live with this, and want to change it. I've never done any DIY, other than painting, but between this bathroom, and pulling up the carpet to refinish the hardwood, I'm going to have to learn!! Thanks in advance for your help.I am buying a '40's house with HORRIBLE tile on the bathroom walls, how to paint over them?
You're getting some goofy advice. The easy (and really not that expensive) solution is to call a tub refinisher in your area and have them refinish your tile. They can paint it any color you want with an industrial enamel paint that has excellent staying power. It might cost a few hundred dollars, but compare that to the costs of tearing out the old, discovering who knows what in the walls, and then having to refinish the walls. I don't know any contractor who can do that for under $1000.

As for refinishing the hardwoods, it's not so hard. You can rent the sander from Lowes or Home Depot, as well as many Ace Hardware stores. It takes a good day to do a good job (especially make sure every last one of those carpet staples is gone before you start). Instead of the expensive floor finishes look for gymnasium finisher. It's also sold at the box stores, just in a different area because it's a commercial finish. It's about $20/gallon and is made for the heavy wear and tear of a school gymnasium. You'll have fun with the project...just make sure the windows can stay open all night before you start.I am buying a '40's house with HORRIBLE tile on the bathroom walls, how to paint over them?
I wouldn't suggest painting the tile, humidity and water from the shower would most likely lift the paint. The best thing to do in my opinion would be to replace the tiles.
Paint won't work. Best thing to do is hire a professional to remove the existing tile and install a tile of your choice. It's not cheap but might be worth it to you in the long run.
hi Melena i'm in the same boat as you and after asking tradespeople and doing internet research i;m going to strip all the old tiles and redo with new ones, There are products available which allow you to repaint tiles but general opinion seems to be that the paint will scratch off over time and isn't really suitable for very wet areas, It's gonna be hard work removing all the old tiles but at the end of the day i will have the bathroom of my wife's dreams and it will last for many years to come so i won't have this nightmare to deal with again

hope this helps

Paul
you could do 2 things either tear off that old tile and replace it with new tile, it will give you a broader selection of colors styles etc. but since you said this is an old house i think that tile may not have a gypsum board or something like that underneat it probably have lath and plaster so if you tear you would have to redo the wallboards OR you could use a method called ceramic resurface they spray a ceramic mixture instead of paint over your tiles i think the color selection is limited but its cheaper compared to buying new tiles, backerboards, nails, grout, mud, etc.

hope this helps
just rip it out drywall is cheap n easy 2 install u cann do it probably 4 under 100.00
The best (and most costly) way to get what you want is to hire a pro and remodel the entire bathroom the way you want it.

You CAN effectively paint it for a DIY (and much cheaper) project: Get the tile as clean as possible and use an oil based primer coat; the best in my experience is Kilz, found in any home or hardware store, then paint it the color you want with an enamel paint; it needs to be enamel (oil based), at least around the tub/shower, because latex will eventually fade and wash off or peel due to the wetness. My best and good luck.

Hey bad rabbit1, she can't use DRYwall around a tub; a product called greenboard is used in wet areas, and that is finished with tile or decorative plastic/composite sheets, and Les The Painter should know more about his materials. Porous, not porus bro.
Tear it out and replace with natural stone. Or, you can contact someone who does the overlay...I did it in my bathroom when my tub was bright yellow...they come out and redo your tub in white or any color...professionally and it lasts! Check out http://www.integritycoatings.com for an example. I've been in my house for 15 years and they also did my antique oven....I imagine they might do the tile, too.
Tile isn't porus so it won't keep paint on it I don't care what primer you use.
You say it's for the 40's is the tile plastic?, if so get a wide 3-4'' metal scraper and pop all the tile off the first one may need a little elbow grease but once you get the first one the rest goes easily. The glue will still be on the wall so invest in a good heat gun and heat and scrape all the glue off the walls. These walls should be plaster so you shouldn't have a problem. What ever is left on the walls can be lightly sanded til smooth, wash walls, prime and paint. It will take some time but the end result is worth it. I did this in a 50's kitchen and bathroom, the tile in the tub was even on the ceiling. Good luck! If the tile is ceramic its a whole other story and project. Painting than would be advisable because you would ruin most of the walls removing ceramic tiles.

  • What color should i paint my kitchen and bathroom?

Im trying to sell my studio, its 650 sq. ft. %26amp; it needs to be painted... For the living room i think im going to do some kind of an off white. The kitchen has dark brown cabinets with a white tile floor %26amp; white counter and the bathroom has a black granite sink and counter %26amp; also had white tile flooring. What color walls would you suggest to paint the kitchen and bathroom?

Thanks :)What color should i paint my kitchen and bathroom?
For the purpose of selling, I would use ';ecru'; by sherwin williams:

    http://sherlink.sherwin.com/swapp/color_鈥?/a>

That would look good in both, but if you want different colors for the rooms, the I would use ecru in the kitchen - giving it a coffee shop effect - and then use ';white duck'; in the bathroom. People like white bathrooms b/c they're perceived to be cleaner. What color should i paint my kitchen and bathroom?
I would paint both rooms a soft wheat color or a soft gold. Both are neutral without making the rooms look stark like a white would.
i would go with a antique whits for the kitchen and off white for the bathroom both colors have a nice look of clean and if your going to sell it thats what i would do
bathroom white kitchen sky blue is beautiful
    all white
Kitchen, IF the light is good, a kind of light faded blue (think faded denims) with glossy white trim. If the light isn't good a sandy beige, with bright green trim.

Bathroom faded gold and faded greens, with bright brassy accents.
WELL....for the bathroom maybe a shade Grey, kitchen i would go with tan or an accent color of what you have now living room go with a color that blends with the kitchen a similar color or the same.
I love the colors from pottery barn. they work well if you have a lot/or no natural light.

Soft colors deep BUT NOT DARK...yellow, green and blue. They can work with country, french country and a friend of mine who is over the top modern...black marble granite top in kitchen. very modern chic furniture and it looks fabulous. look up ';pottery barn store';. you will see these colors through out their catalog!

    Good luck!
You could paint your kitchen a light yellow or an eggshell color, maybe dark red? The bathroom maybe a dark green, a cute warm-colored theme? Green and black? These colors seem to go together.
If you are planning to sell your studio, then I would go for a neutral. Like a tan. I would paint every room that color because a) It makes other colors pop against this neutral. b)It's a small space and you want continuity to appear as if it was a larger space. c)Why invest in so many different colors, someone who buys it will probably change it anyway. Good luck!

What is best to paint a bathroom with?

actual bathroom paint or a gloss of some sort? It's a small bathroom with a small window, do have the window open but it still gets steamy in there. What is best to paint a bathroom with?
I would use a kitchen and bath paint as they have special additives to prevent mold and mildew in a high moisture bathroom. Both can be hazardous to your health!

Also, If possible you should have an exhaust fan installed. As opening a window isn't always possible and mold/mildew can form behind walls and fixtures where you can't see it or easily treat and remove it.

You can always use the same paint in your kitchen, even if you just use it on one wall for an accent. That way you won't waste money on a gallon of paint and half gallons cost almost as much as a whole gallon. What is best to paint a bathroom with?
interior semi gloss or maybe kitchen/bath enamel....both would work..

both paints are scrubbable, mold and mildew resitant...

How to keep paint from peeling in bathroom?

I painted the bathroom 4 months ago due to peeling paint.

Surface prep included scraping, sanding, and priming with moisture resistant primer.

The room was then painted with a bathroom specific moisture resistant paint.

    Now it's peeling up again.

The bathroom has a fan that is run during and after showers.

I believe the walls are lathe and plaster.

Looking for painting suggestions so I don't have to do this again in six months. How to keep paint from peeling in bathroom?
There are specific primers and paints for plaster. My guess is these plaster walls never have had the proper primer (then a drying period) and then final coat of paint.

The plaster is transfering moisture gathered in the walls and then it permeates the plaster/primer/paint until it finally blisters the primer and paint off the wall.

Stop by a local Specialty paint store such as Sherwin Williams,Porter or other paint retailer that is geared toward professional painters. They can tell you the proper procedure to remove the existing layers of primer/paint and then the proper prep you need to do to the plaster prior to applying their specific primer/paint for plaster. How to keep paint from peeling in bathroom?
Two reason cause the peeling in the paint .

    1-A wet or moist surface.

    2- A greasy surface .

In your case dry wall has to be wet cause of vaporization or steam in bath-room .Before painting you should provide a hot air blower with a heater or a fresh air till dry wall completely dry .Other fast action is to patch that section with fast dry plaster .Paint one cote primer white and then any other color that you choose.
If everything was done properly and the paint is peeling after only 4 months , then you probably have moisture getting into the plaster from behind . There could be 1001 reasons why .
Sounds like your vent is venting into the attic... moisture returns to the walls and lifts paint...check that first

What is the best way to paint over a glossy bathroom wall that has bubbled in spots and has peeled?

I scraped off part of the old paint, but now the wall has uneven spots on it where the paint is chipped off. Also, where I painted over the old glossy paint a few years ago, the paint peels off easily. What is the best way to paint over a glossy bathroom wall that has bubbled in spots and has peeled?
First try to determine if it the paint on the wall is oil based or latext based paint. Most people today use latext and it sounds like it is a gloss. If is is oil then you should use an oil based paint.

Let the area that you are painting in the bathroom to dry out for 24 hours first before tackling the spots.

Sand the walls down with 3 different grades of sandpaper start with a rough paper and end with a smoother paper. where the spots are, remove any peeling paint. You might also have to spackle on the spots and sand those out level with the wall. OH.....vacuum the walls after sanding. get some gloss off and wipe down the walls and let dry. now you should be ready to use the paint brush. Prime you walls first with a good primer like Primer 123. let dry. now you should be able to apply the paint. clean up any mistakes before they dry with a damp rag. Most painters would say that it is over kill to do the sanding and then the gloss off; but if is my home that I am doing then I do it with the over kill. To prevent the peeling again....keep your bathroom from steaming up when showering. What is the best way to paint over a glossy bathroom wall that has bubbled in spots and has peeled?
it depend on the paint.. if it's oil based..u you have to use oil based paint over it.. you have to lightly sand the glossy paint and where it's peeling to get it smooth primer and paint.. good luck
I wouldn't paint over the paint that is peeling... you will just end up with the new paint coming off sooner than you want. Try to remover as much of the paint that is peeling as possible then use liquid sander (available at most fine home improvement establishments near you) then paint the room.

    Good luck...
try using sugar soap to remove the grease, thats hy the paint oesnt stick that well, ither that or use a electric sander and rough the gloss up
Sounds like you have moisture getting behind the paint-Paint applied to a gloss surface does not bond well, simply put its to slippery and nothing for the new paint to hold on too.

Remove all loose paint, then use a Deglosser , then Prime with Flat oil base paint, use white or a color in harmoney with what the new color is - Proper prep is half the job.
Well, I'd sudgest stripping the wall. Make sure that its ventilated when you do it. Its hard work, but will take care of the problem. Then, when you re-paint, to avoid chipping/peeling/bubbles etc. Put down a primer coat first. Then paint in the color of your choice. Good Luck.

What is the best color to paint a women's bathroom?

I get to pick and paint the women's bathroom at my friends new bar, which is actually pretty cool. What are some of the best colors? What is the best color to paint a women's bathroom?
yellow and whiteWhat is the best color to paint a women's bathroom?
Well some women like pink and some women likes white......but the best thing u can do is ask your friends what colors do they prefer unless they r all male then it would b best to get an opinion from one of the girl friends who will b working there
a light blue or green, like the color of the caribbean ocean waters
    light yellow and soft blue
    piss yellow
    foam green!!!
    A nice warm dusty rose.
I used to go to a movie theater that had a pink or rosy painted ladies' room. The ceiling was the same color -- and it made you look so good in the mirror! Very cheering.
Hot pink..scarlet red or cerise....add black here and there for a more sophisticated look
I would go with a light pink or purple and then maybe add some darker colors of the wall color for decoration. You could also go with a them, like in my mom's bathroom the walls are light pink and then she has darker pink wastebasket and a white shower curtain with pink shoes on it with hot pink fuzzy stuff. It all depends on what colors you like too.
    pink or lavender
Pink blue green purple. If you can paintlike a nice butterfly or a big flower
Bronzed mirrors. Pale walls, and LOADS of pot plants....

    Makes women feel like tigresses....
Dusty peach with pale buttery yellow trim.

    .
I hate pink! How about painting it a nice pale sea glass green and giving it a spa feel?
burnt orange is the new mauve:-)
Off white color would be best. It is a bathroom at a bar and will probably not stay nice looking for long. Think about repainting problems if you pick a way out color scheme or touch up painting.
I painted mine ';creole cottage'; by sherwin williams, with ';nuance'; for the trim. very classy. check it out:

    http://sherlink.sherwin.com/swapp/color_鈥?/a>
White the reason i say this is because the bathroom will appear bigger and make boarders of a different color to contrast .. the reason i say white is because you can make the bathroom accent (rugs and such) any color you want and can change them out when you get tired of the accent colors
Pink. With roses. And Flowers. and Happy bunny rabbits and smiles and HAPPINESS!!!!

Or that might make some women puke.

How about just a pale blue and white?

How do I get old paint out of my bathroom without scraping?

We just moved into a house with a bathroom with really old paint in it, I mean the paint is so old that it's coming off everywhere and it's peeling. How do I remove it withput scraping the whole bathroom, are there products out there that remove old paint without scraping? How do I get old paint out of my bathroom without scraping?
You don't want to do a lot of scraping on old paint as it may have lead in it. You want to cover it. Spackle chipped areas and paint with a primer and then a top coat of paint, or install wallboard over the old wallsHow do I get old paint out of my bathroom without scraping?
You scrap, use a heat gun, or a power sander. there are chemical for striping paint, but they are real dangerous to use.like dead dangerous, just scrape the paint. the like you save may be yours.
If it is on the walls, you could try tiling it, there are some great tiles available now, and cheaper than in the past
Just scrape the loose, sand the edges, prime and repaint.

  • How do you paint an outdated bathroom countertop?

The first thing you need to do is wash it with liquid TSP, which you can find at any home hardware store. It will remove all ****, slime, soap scum and grease that will prevent your paint from sticking. Use the liquid kind instead of the powder as it isn't toxic, is easier to mix and does not need to be rinsed after washing.

Once you've done that, lightly sand the surface with a fine-grain sandpaper. Remove the dust with a damp soft cloth. Let dry completely.

Apply an oil-based primer (latex won't work!). I suggest Bull's Eye 1-2-3 or Kilz. Apply 2 coats. Let dry 24 hours before applying your paint.

You can now paint on top of this counter. I highly suggest you use a high-gloss oil-based paint. It will stick better. I would also use a clear gloss water-proof varnish sealer to protect the paint.

You can get creative with the paint... you can do a faux finish or you can just do plain paint...

But have you considered making a mosaic bathroom counter top? It would look fantastic and can cost very little if you know what to do. Feel free to email me and I'll tell you how...How do you paint an outdated bathroom countertop?
You can buy the really cool looking tuscan paints in spray cans for counter tops and paint them if you cannot afford to redo it or use white tiles (cheap at Home depot) and some other kind of tiles, like ones with the color of your kitchen intermingled in with the white tiles...like make a pattern and grout the countertop.....I have redone a lot in my house myself....it is cheaper than hiring someoneHow do you paint an outdated bathroom countertop?
We just redid a countertop in the kitchen of a rental house. It was bright yellow formica. Nothing wrong with it except it was dated and ugly with our other kitchen items. Visit Lowe's,.Home Depot or some other home improvement store, paint store. This is for people who want to spend a limited amount on doing this but would like a really smashing result. We got ideas in the ';faux finishing'; area of the paint department. Selected a finish that is supposed to look like distressed leather. We bought a gallon of deep red paint (can be any color) - Satin finish Latex. A burnt umber glaze to go over it. First we sanded the countertops to help them accept the paint. Wipe with a damp cloth and let completely dry. Then we primed with a grey primer (not white - harder with white unless you want to paint the countertops white or very light color). The primer set for a day, we added 3 coats of red put on with a roller (taped off built in stove, sink, etc.) Then we applied the burnt umber glaze. Put your hand in a small plastic trash bag. Tie the edges on your wrist. Then ';Scrunch'; the bag in your hand and dab at the glaze, pouncing to make a random pattern which you like - lines, leather looking patterns, etc. Let dry thoroughly for a couple of days. Make this as heavy or light as is attractive to you. Do not make it heavy build up or it will take days and days to really dry well. Take the bag off, fold inside out, close up and dispose in trash - NO Mess. After this is thoroughly dry, cover with SEVERAL coats of Polyurethane to make water proof. Poly comes in several clear finishes from Matte to Gloss so it can be as shiny as you like. It is still a good idea to use cutting boards (I have three large clear glass ones that protect the countertop and are easy to clean but still let the finish show through. We have had worlds of compliments. We are appliance painting the green stove (OLD but refuses to die) and replacing the green sink. This will make a quick, cheap yet dramatic kitchen redo. You could also use a plain colored finish of your choice - easier but we like the effect we achieved. In this day of people spending thousands on ';Granite'; counters we with some creativity can create a masterpiece without the cost. I love my counters, hope you love yours when finished.

Can I shower between coats of paint in the bathroom?

I am painting my bathroom (using proper bathroom paint) and the label recommends 4-6 hours between coats. Is it possible to shower 4-6 hours after the paint has been applied? I just want to make sure the paint won't start peeling.

THANKS!!Can I shower between coats of paint in the bathroom?
shouldn't be a problemCan I shower between coats of paint in the bathroom?
no,, the humidity can mix or get between coats,,, it will also cloud the the paint,,
you really shouldnt because it might make the paint dry funny. i used to word at the home depot paint desk and i would not recommend it. the paint will not set properly.
The paint can be dry to the touch, but not fully cured. The time between coats is not the same as the curing time. Even for a bathroom paint, I would wait 24 hours before exposing it to water.

I'am repainting my bathroom which paint is better semi-gloss or flat.?

I would recommend neither. I don't like the shiny semi-gloss, though it is a 'better' option for bathrooms and kitchens, than flat, for sure. I don't use flat at all, as it does not wash well, if you ever want to clean the walls. My first option is eggshell. It is not shiny, yet washes well, and has a real nice finish to it. It works well in any room of your house. If semi-gloss and flat are your ONLY options, then choose semi-gloss, as flat is not made for bathrooms or kitchens at all.

Here is a website that lists all the paint finishes, and what they are best used for:

http://www.voiceofcolor.com/en/myproject/product_sheen.aspI'am repainting my bathroom which paint is better semi-gloss or flat.?
Semi gloss kitchen and bathroom paint. This paint is a washable paint.I'am repainting my bathroom which paint is better semi-gloss or flat.?
semi gloss as it is easier to clean
.........semi gloss you will get water marks if you use flat. you can even use eggshell its closer to flat then semi gloss but not as shiny
Definitely use a semi-gloss,. It won't look shiny but will be easy to wipe. Never use flat in a bathroom or kitchen. Some people even use gloss, but I think that is too shiny.
I agree with prior posters, use eggshell.

Tips: Save a little bit of left over paint in an air tight container so it is easily accesible if you need to touch up in future and also save the paint name/color so you can have it remixed in the future.... you never know if you'll need it!
I think semi-gloss is easier to wipe clean. I could be wrong though...
semi gloss for bathrooms, halls, and kitchens.

easy to wipe clean. flat paint will show every finger print if there are dirty hands anywhere around, its just hard to keep flat pained walls clean.
    Semi-gloss in the bathroom.
Hi. When it comes to paint you have flat, satin, semi-gloss. Flat and satin are for the walls. Flat is the cheapest. Satin is the mid-priced. It's better that flat and easier to clean. Semi-gloss is for your trim molding. I wouldn't put a semi-gloss on the wall cause it's has the most shine and it shows imperfections in the wall surface more than a flat or satin would. So use flat or satin on your walls and a semi-gloss on your trim. Oh yea use a latex paint instead of oilbased. It cleans up with water. Good luck
a semi gloss but use an oil based paint water based will flake after a while due to the steam of the hot water

flats are best used where people seldom touch the paint IE ceilings
You will want an eggshell for the walls (which is a little glossier than flat) You will want flat for the ceiling and semi-gloss for the trim, crown, and base.

Should I paint my bathroom all one color (walls and ceiling) or should i leave the ceiling white?

what is the trend right now?Should I paint my bathroom all one color (walls and ceiling) or should i leave the ceiling white?
I don't know what the trend is, nor do I care, but in the bathroom, you're gonna want to maximize light. Leaving it white will reflect more light than painting it the same color as the walls.Should I paint my bathroom all one color (walls and ceiling) or should i leave the ceiling white?
Well what we did in our bathroom (deep brown) is mixed 3/4 white and 1/4 brown into a bucket and did that. It was not white but not the deep brown. I would suggest this if you have a darker colored wall. For a lighter colored wall, you may do visa versa as in the 3/4 is the color and the 1/4 is white.

    Good luck~
What i would do is paint or wallpaper the walls, but paint the ceiling white. And if you paint the walls please do in a light color. Make the bathroom light and cheery. Add accents and decor to your bathroom to fit your theme. You will love your bathroom when you are done. Remember the bathroom is the first place you usually go when you wake up and this room should be always clean and delightful to start your day. Good Luck!
if the room looks small; you want to leave it white; the contrast in color will make the room appear larger. if the room appears to big, paint all one color or use a slightly darker color to make the room appear smaller.
Leave it white for now. I think it looks cool like that. And if you dont like it, then you can just paint over it later.
I think it looks really nice if you have the walls a few shades darker than the ceiling, but both painted the same color.
Yes, but leave the ceiling white so you have enough reflected light.
white. looks weird all one color.

What color should i paint my kitchen and bathroom?

Good Luck.

  • How do I get old paint out of my bathroom without scraping?

How do you paint an outdated bathroom countertop?

My bathroom is covered with gloss paint on the wall tiles, I have tried a heat gun and a scrapper and nitromorse and nothing will touch it. Can anyine help please. How do you get gloss paint off a whole bathroom of wall tiles?
Use paint stripper. You just brush this stuff on nice and thick, give it 20 minutes or so to lift the paint, then scrape off with a plastic scraper (so you won't scratch the tiles). Repeat the process on stubborn areas. Then give the tiles a final rinse.

I've used this stuff on multi-coated car parts and it works great.

They make a citrus (orange scented) formula, if you're concerned about strong odors.

the only other thing i can think of is neat bleach left on for a few hours it may soften it enough to scrape off.

but if not then you will either have to re tile or repaint them.
It's probably not paint, it might be in the tile. Did you try paint remover or paint thinner? You could just pop them off and replace them yourself.
It won't hurt either way, you have to sand it all down and paint with a mildew resistant non gloss paint.
Have you try ed paint stripper,it might be expensive and a bit messy.

The colour depends if this is a guest powder room or a family bathroom. A family bathroom should be light and pop some colour with a bright shower curtain or brightly coloured towels..it could be beige (the safe colour), or light grey with bright red and blue or navy towels and silver accessories. If it is a guest powder room, then anything goes..no matter how small it is, this is the room you can have fun in and experiment..it does not have to be bright because no one is using it for hair or make up..you can make it dark and dramatic...and because it only has a toilet, sink and mirror, you can afford to splurge a little because it doesn't need much.

A light shade like cream or tan, etc. This makes the place look wider. Lighter shade makes the place bright and creates a appearance and feeling of a bigger area. Whatever the color might be to your preference...choose two light shades.
Deffinately light color and don't over clutter with too much decor.
I would go with a light, but bright blue if I were starting fresh, but mine right now {I am renting} it just plain white, and very small, and that works really well too. I put up a colorful showercurtain with bright fish on it, and then put a matching handtowel in, and then everything else is a dark blue found mostly in the showercurtain. Toothbrush holder, soap dish, cup, and rugs on the floor, they are two tone, dark and darker blue, and give the room some punch of color. The toilet paper holder, towel holder and hand towel holder are wood, and compiment nicely. I actually love my bathroom, even though it is small. Now that I say all that, I'm thinking white is best! LOL
    Just white!
Choose something light. That will brighten and and make the room seem bigger.
i think the best color would be a lilac or a pale pink
I would say a pale yellow...it's cheery and bright and tends to maximize the feeling of the room.

What color should I paint my bedroom and bathroom?

They are connected so the colors will need to be complementary. My comforter set is brownish toupe with red and green embroidery. LOL, it sounds really gross from this description but its not. It's sort of ';fancy';, I guess, although it looks fine in my typical teenage room. However, the walls are all brown, which doesn't look so great with my bedding. It's like an explosion of one color of brown. Anyway, I'd like to repaint and want some color suggestions. Can anyone help? Thanks! What color should I paint my bedroom and bathroom?
I would take your pillow cover, with a color matching your bedding, and match one of the colors.

It's up to you, if you want a warm room, or a cool feeling room.

If you dont like the brown, and dont like the feeling, You might not appeal to red. Even though red is an extremely warm color, that is vibrant, and elegant, and fancy. With a richer feel to it. Red is sensual, and can warm the heart, and well set the mood.

Green is a cool comfortable color, even darker shades of green can have a luxury feel to them, with a hint of elegance.

Green inspires energy, and is great to wake up too, it's brighter, when the sun hits it, it radiates a natural flow to the room, a very zen color...

You can do the red in the bedroom, and green in the bathroom. But you have to put the red somewhere in the bathroom also, like in the shower curtains, or, toilet coverings, or simple painted baskets, to keep magazines, or toiletries, in. Or a red matching color curtain.

Or vise versa, put the opposite color into the bedroom, accent your dresser, or night stand, or even lamp shades, in the green or red that matches the opposing room...

    Bring the colors together.

Other colors wouldn't match very well. because other colors would clash with the opposite colores, so match what you have in your bedding you're attatched too. Hey it's only paint! What color should I paint my bedroom and bathroom?
I'd say go to the opposite extreme on the warm-cool spectrum and pick a light robin's egg blue or a cool icy pale aqua color. The bathroom can be similar in lightness but maybe another shade of blue or aqua.

If you don't like that, I read this somewhere, that depending on which direction your rooms face:

West- Cool colors like white, silver, gray, blue

    East - Dramatic, stronger colors

    North- Warm colors

    South- Pastels of cool colors.

Since I live in florida I thought I would break that rule and put cool colors in the north room, to made it double cool, and it is, and I like it.

I also put the warm colors in the SW room, breaking the rules to have a very warm room in the south when the winter sun is in the southern sky

What color should I paint my 70's bathroom?

I have a ceramic tiled shower and floor that are the typical 70's olive green color. I removed the dated wallpaper, but have no idea what color to paint the room. It's a tiny room so I am afraid if I go with a dark color, it will feel like a cave. I had also thought about an eggplant purple, but then I don't know what to do with the trim. Help! What color should I paint my 70's bathroom?
An eggplant would be nice, You could trick it out in more of a Tuscan style with the green and eggplant.

I would go with white or a soft, warm gray for the trim. What color should I paint my 70's bathroom?
how about that yellowish color that was popular back then? can't think what they called it, but i think it would go with the green.
I would go with a cream or a soft tan-it would be more natral and cleaner. You can accent with a rich wood on picture frames and or towell racks or with a polished silver. Don't do purple-but as towell colors it would be beautiful.
    Bright Orange
    Avocado
Purple would go with the tile. I think the trim would be good in cream or off white. Brighten up the bathroom with accessories. Some tangerine or pale yellows in the towels and soap dishes would help. Don't go too dark in purple. Go with more of a plum I'm thinking. Good luck. I hope this helps.
White beadboard with a chair-rail molding arond the walls,a very pale yellow flat paint on walls above the beadboard, with a white,semi-gloss trim...that room needs reflective light,so stay with light colors
i would go with a neutral color like beige or khaki or off white.......can't do much with olive green:-)
i would go with bright aqua blue or green

What color should I paint my small, windowless bathroom?

The bathroom is about 8' x 8' and has a white pedestal sink and cherry wood cabinet and mirror. I'd like to add a punch of color but I dont' want anything that will make the room seem smaller than it already is. Any ideas? What color should I paint my small, windowless bathroom?
With no windows you could have some fun by painting it a serene shade of aquamarine so it would look like you were underwater. A clear shower curtain will visually make the bathroom seem bigger rather than an opaque one that would block off the tub area and make the bathroom seem smaller.

A clear shower curtain with fish on it would be fun too. That would add some color and decoration and still let the room seem bigger. Light sand colored flooring or bath mats will add to the underwater effect. White woodwork and brass fixtures with a nautical motif would complete your SeaWorld bathroom. What color should I paint my small, windowless bathroom?
I have one of those windowless bathrooms too and I've tried about every color to keep it from being so gloomy. I've finally settled on a soft yellow; yellow mimics sunshine. And just to give it a little more punch, I took some glazing liquid (used when doing faux finishes) that has a opalescent finish, mixed a tiny bit of white paint with it and kind of ';rubbed'; that on the wall over the paint. You could sponge that mixture just as easily or even roll it on evenly, whatever you want!
a light blue or any light color light makes the room appear bigger too it doesn't seem so cramped...plus its a really pretty color... so like a sky blue or a robins egg blue... kind of the same thing

if you want more of a pop paint it a yellow not like puke yellow but a baby yellow something subtle but bright its very pretty...
Yellow would look great with white and cherry.

    A shade like this?

salmon pink will brighten the space up a lot and will also compliment the cherry wood color.
Yellow! That will make it seem bright and cheerful.
white or light colors (never black) so u can add more decoration later on.

What Color Should I Paint My Bedroom And Bathroom?

I have a dark purple couch with dark purple(almost a plum color) doors on my bathroom, closet, and bedroom door and have dark purple bordering around my room,I also have a wooden dresser, desk, and nightstand. What should I paint my room? I would like something calming and quiet. Also, I would prefer NOT to have feminine colors like pink, lavender or something of that nature. What Color Should I Paint My Bedroom And Bathroom?
Grays (charcoal) look great with purple and plum but so does sage green. Your choice.

play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to help you imagine how the colors will look together. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family %26amp; color name, the ';painted'; rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. How about a pale grey on your walls..I would paint your trim and doors out in an white to lighten it up, but if you really like the colour you have, then keep it..the grey will go great with it and is a unisex colour.
I personally like sage. It has a very calming effect without being to feminine. You could accent the couch with sage pillows or a throw.
Something light like a really nice shade of blue or even an ecru or eggshell color would go great with purple/plum.

  • Can I shower between coats of paint in the bathroom?

  • I am buying a '40's house with HORRIBLE tile on the bathroom walls, how to paint over them?

Good Luck.

How do you paint an outdated bathroom countertop?

How do you get gloss paint off a whole bathroom of wall tiles?

A simple color with simple acsessories. What is the best color to paint a small bathroom?
The colour depends if this is a guest powder room or a family bathroom. A family bathroom should be light and pop some colour with a bright shower curtain or brightly coloured towels..it could be beige (the safe colour), or light grey with bright red and blue or navy towels and silver accessories. If it is a guest powder room, then anything goes..no matter how small it is, this is the room you can have fun in and experiment..it does not have to be bright because no one is using it for hair or make up..you can make it dark and dramatic...and because it only has a toilet, sink and mirror, you can afford to splurge a little because it doesn't need much.
play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to help you imagine how the colors will look together. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family %26amp; color name, the ';painted'; rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

I think ';leisure blue'; (# 6515) might be a good choice.

You can take a photo of your house %26amp; upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

You can get color suggestions %26amp; for $5 they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.
A very light color so it looks like there is more space than there is. I'd suggest a light blue, light green or white.
A neutral color to open up the space and then pop it with bright accessories like towels and shower curtains etc.
