What is a quick fix for chipping paint in my bathroom?

There is a spot above my shower that is chipping. It is a thick layer of paint. I would like to clean the chipping paint, fill, and repaint. What are the steps I need to make it smooth and beautiful? What should I use to fill? What is a quick fix for chipping paint in my bathroom?
Scrape it and fill it with spackling , let it dry, sand it and paint the whole wall or room overWhat is a quick fix for chipping paint in my bathroom?
Ben, first and foremost, is there a window or fan in the bath to draw out the moisture? If not, that's why the paint is chipping.

as for the hole, chip off all the surrounding paint and sand for a good finish to adhere to.

get yourself some fast dry joint compound like 'easy sand' 15minutes, and I forgot for the moment, but there is one other that is sold in any lg lumber yard, Lowe's, home depot or CO.OP.

get that in 10lbs if you can and it will make your life easier. It'll dry quickly, and you can either sand smooth or trawl slick between applications. Build up slowly and mix small batches. Any cracks that form in the 1st application will be refilled in the coming applications. Sand to smooth and paint with oil primer and oil finish to your liking.

use a 5-6'; trawl or flat spatula knife.

mix to an oatmeal consistency.
Yeah, how bout paint!!!!
When you say that the paint is think, is it textured? If it is not a textured paint, I would suggest taking a small palm sander and sanding down the edges of the paint so that they run smooth with the surface below. This will help remove any loose paint and no filler will be needed. Once it is smooth, wipe down the wall to remove any dust and then paint. If the paint is textured, you can still do the same tecnique, but you will need to access what method was used for the texture.

If the paint is so thick that a filler is needed, I am sorry, I am not sure of a good paint filler. The only thing I can think of is that your sheet rock was covered with a layer of mud to help protect against moisture and the joint compund is actually peeling, not the paint.

Hope this helps.
You must first scrape the loose and chipping paint from the ceiling. Fill the area with Joint-compound [ this mat take 2-3 coats. Sand after it dries. use a primer then paint.

The chipping comes from steam/moisture in the shower area. You should look into installing a power vet in the shower ceiling to get rid of the steam. Look in Home Depot, they have many different models, some with lights , some with out.
There are several fillers on the market that you can use to fill in a depression, talk to your paint supplier to find one that best fits your needs (size of depression, paint you intend to use, drying time, etc). When you are ready to do the repair, fill the depression and wait until it is completely dry and sand smooth. You may have to repeat the fill and sand step as some fillers do shrink. Be sure to use a putty knife to help smooth out the filler. After you have the depression filled and smooth, you are ready to paint.
